Doing Business Locally? You Need Local SEO Marketing

If your small business relies on the neighborhood to drive sales, then you need to make sure you have a local presence. Sounds simple enough, but not every business knows how to take the necessary extra steps to optimize their local search marketing.
You may also think that PPC (Pay Per Click) is good enough. The truth is, you get a heck of a lot better ROI from putting a little work into your organic SEO. I have to say that being a local business offering local services is a becoming more and more of an advantage. Typically, customers are further along in the sales process than with national companies. As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, mobile phones and their location features are helping small businesses get found better than ever before.
Boost your Local SEO marketing with these tips:
- Local Directories: It’s a funny thing, local customers use local searches almost more than they do general searches on Google. This means you need to make sure you can get found on Yahoo Local, Bing Local, Yelp, and Google Places.
- On Page Local SEO: Make sure that you page titles, meta descriptions, and headers all reflect where you are along with what you offer. If you fix musical instruments in Phoenix, try a page title like “Musical Instrument Repair | Phoenix, AZ.” It’s also a good idea to have your address printed somewhere on everywhere of your site so the spiders can always find it.
- Have a Mobile Mindset: Don’t just have local SEO, have a mobile SEO strategy to compliment it. Like I’ve been saying, more and more people pick up their phone right before they make plans or to get things done more conveniently, so make sure your website has a format that is optimized for mobile SEO.
- Blog with Local Language: Your small business blog with speak volumes to your audience if they think you are one of them and understand local issues. Use you favorite local newspaper websites for some ideas. Here in Phoenix, check out Phoenix New Times or the Phoenix Business Journal.
